Designed for a local builder, this contemporary home was a charged exploration into how to maximize the value of a pocket-size lot in a premier central Austin neighborhood.  Working within extensive local design restrictions, a finessed 2-story stack concept maximized the available square footage, while still respecting and paying homage to the surrounding structures and the story of this neighborhood in transition.

Regional materials soften the prevailing modern design aesthetic, and the massing is carefully articulated so as not to impose on some of the smaller existing homes in the neighborhood.  The warm but modern design aesthetic pushes seamlessly into the interior of the home, where efficient use of space and open concepts allow a smaller footprint to feel surprisingly spacious.  Of particular note is the open pantry concept which allowed more light to come into the public spaces while doubling as a work area and an extension of the kitchen and mudroom.
